So, my first favorite video game... it came out in 1999, at least here in North America. A year after I was born!
My father had given me his original gray brick Gameboy when I was a little kid, as well as some games that I only played for a bit (Super Mario Land 2 as well as Yoshi). But, I was also given another video game as a hand-me-down, one that would become my favorite game for years, and was all that I would play for a good chunk of my childhood.
And that game was...
Pokémon Yellow!
Yes, this was my first favorite game, as well as the start of my love for the Pokémon franchise! And let me tell you, I played this game so poorly! I never beat the Elite 4 in my original playthrough, and I was absolutely terrible at keeping my Pokémon properly trained and levelled. By the time I got to the Elite 4, I had a level 97 Pikachu (named Pika of course) that knew Thunder, Mega Punch, Mega Kick, and Seismic Toss. Meanwhile, all my other Pokémon were really under levelled because I pretty much just used my Pikachu.
I actually never ended up playing the original Gold/Silver/Crystal back then. My second Pokémon game was actually Emerald Version. My first introduction to 2nd Gen would be Soul Silver version, which is certainly another of my favorites from the franchise.
So, yep! My first favorite game was Pokémon Yellow for the OG Gameboy! I still have the cartridge!
Shh... don't wake her up.
