“Now you see, Captain Maverick, your time defending Capital City is over!” exclaimed the Scarlet Scorpion with a maniacal laugh. She hovered far above the streets, her black dress flowing as she stayed in place.

“That’s what you think, Scorpion! Your reign of tyranny shall fall to the might of true justice!” shouted the Captain as he picked up a nearby minivan and hurled it towards his foe, taking a moment to readjust his cape afterwards.

The villainess narrowly avoided the van, dodging swiftly to the left and offering a great camera shot to the nearby news chopper. Never failing to miss a good photo op, she spun back around, offering a charming, yet sinister grin to the airborne news team, her black hair framing her pale face.

“You boys likin’ the footage? Here, I’ll spice things up for ya!” she shouted with glee, grabbing the helicopter by the landing skids and turning its still-spinning main rotor towards Maverick.

She flew faster, continuing to gather speed as she pushed the helicopter along, its helpless crew strapped in and hanging on for dear life. Captain Maverick braced himself, readying a defensive stance as the blades grew closer. He reached out, taking the main rotor into his hands and forcing it to a stop before jolting it from the woman’s grasp, leaping upwards and setting it down on a nearby building with a charismatic smile.

“Now you boys play it safe!” he shouted to the crew as he leapt away, going for a mid-air sucker punch to the woman’s side.

However, she was aware of his move as he cocked his arm back. The Scarlet Scorpion quickly flew upwards, letting her justice-seeking enemy put his weight into a high-rise apartment complex.

Shaking off the dust and pushing himself away from the dented bricks, Maverick quickly bounded towards his foe, grabbing her by the waist mid-flight and throwing her to the concrete below, sending onlookers running for cover.

“Surrender now, Scorpion! This day’s victory belongs to Captain Maverick!” he exclaimed with a laugh.

The Scarlet Scorpion shrieked in response, though it quickly became a pained groan as she stood up from her place indented into the road.

“Fine… Fine! You may win today, but Capital City shall fall into my clutches!” she shouted, brushing the dust from her dress and fixing her hair before being absorbed in a red glow of light, disappearing away just as law enforcement pulled up.

“Now, gentlemen, I do believe I have handled the situation justly! I fear her imprisonment may lead to worse happenings! Besides, justice always prevails!” boomed the Captain, his massive grin adding to his words. “Now...I must retreat for recovery! As always, Capital City, it is an honor! Captain Maverick...away!”

Maverick leapt away, ducking into cover in an unoccupied alleyway. He quickly changed, out of sight of everyone, back into his daily attire. Captain Maverick was gone for the day. Mr. Michael Grove was now out and about.

Walking out of the alley, Michael quickly found his wife, Sarah, and the two locked arms.

“So, what did you think of the battle?” Sarah asked.

“I think it went perfectly fine. The city is safe again, after all,” Michael laughed.

“Yeah, yeah. Well, you know the important thing,” Sarah started, leaving room for her husband to finish.

“That we put on a good show...Scorpion?” Michael asked, chuckling as he did.

“Yes we did, my Maverick,” Sarah finished, turning to kiss her husband.

In Capital City, the phrase, ‘sleeping with the enemy,’ took on a whole new meaning.
